The Stadium List        Years in Review        Off the Record        The Rules

The Stadium List: Official Rules
1. General

Stadiums that house multiple teams will be listed according to their primary tenant regardless of the event seen there.
Example: St John’s vs. West Virginia at Madison Square Garden will be counted as a professional arena.

Ranking of primary tenants – Outdoor:
Major League Baseball
NFL
NCAA (Football)
Soccer (International and/or Major League)

Ranking of primary tenants – Indoor:
Professional Arena
NCAA

If the Stadium has no primary professional or NCAA tenant the event shall be categorized within the witnessed event category. Example: Big 12 tournament at Kemper Arena, Kansas City, MO

For any stadium to be added, the entire event must be attended and the ticket stub archived for future verification. The game can only be left early for only three reasons:
1. Family Emergency
2. Unavoidable Transportation Requirements (Early flight / train)
3. Requirement to be at a more significant event later in the day (must attend ½ of first game to count)

In case of rain or other disruption, the stadium only counts if the ball has officially been put into play. League-specific rules (5 innings, for example) do not apply. Note, this rule is waived in case of death or disaster.
Example: Oakland A’s vs. San Francisco Giants, San Francisco, CA 1989

Stadiums will be listed with the official name of the stadium at the time of attendance. If the stadium has been attended under multiple names the attendee may choose which name to list. 8. Exceptions

“I’m Already There Rule” - Any other sport, professional or college, may be considered on a case by case basis, provided that the event occurs at a stadium meeting the appropriate minimum capacity criteria. NCAA events must be officially sanctioned matches. (I.E. no club sports) The oversight committee must approve any such events, however when making their case, the attendee can point to this rule.

“Gonzaga Rule” - Any NCAA Division 1 basketball game that features a team that has been ranked in the top 25 at any point in that current season, regardless of conference affiliation.

“Gonzaga Doesn’t Count! Rule” – If a list member acquires a stadium as a result of the Gonzaga Rule, all other list members have one additional season to acquire that same stadium, regardless of the rank of the team during that season.

“Army Rule” – Any NCAA Division 1 basketball game that features a team that has moved from an approved conference to a non-approved conference within 1 calendar year prior. When the “Army Rule” is invoked the “Gonzaga Doesn’t Count! Rule” is immediately called into effect.

“Allstate Arena Rule” – Professional wrestling events at otherwise acceptable stadiums are approved, with the caveat that all reasonable attempts must be made to acquire the stadium at a later date with a more legitimate sporting event. Note that if any wrestler dies during the show, this rule is waived and the stadium is accepted with no further requirements.

“Olympic Rule” – All arenas / stadiums attended during an official Summer or Winter Olympics count, regardless of capacity. Note: outdoor, non-stadium events (rowing, skiing, road racing) do not count. Go find a stadium to sit in.

“Historical Significance Rule” – An arena or stadium may be exempted from the capacity or team requirements if it is holds particular historical significance (must be documented and presented to the committee with reference links).

"Retired Stadium Rule" – An arena or stadium which once the primary home stadium for an allowable sport / conference but is now decommissioned or repurposed will be allowed if an acceptable event is witnessed there. Use of this rule must be approved by the stadium oversight committee with submission of significant evidence (i.e. Wikipedia entries) which back up the request.

“Road Trip Rule” – If, on a road trip, if all exhaustible options are met and a non-approved conference Division 1 basketball game is within reach, the committee will be called into an emergency session and if approved, the arena would count. While the stadium would be added to all official statistics, the members agree not to brag about this.

“D1 Basketball Exemption ” – One D1 basketball arena from a non-approved conference is allowed per calendar year. If more than one is attended they are to be stashed onto the other list where they will be able to be moved later, retroactively applied to the year in which they were attended.

“I'll do whatever it takes to catch-up! Rule ” – One additional D1 basketball arena exemption will be awarded to whomever is behind as of January 1 of each year.
